Meet Your Local Fishing Guide in Lapland
Forty Years Later. Still Hooked.

Meet Teemu Vehviläinen
Hi, I’m Teemu, the guy behind Grayling Guide. I’ve been fishing for more than 40 years, much of it on the rivers and lakes of Northern Finland, Sweden and Norway. I live in Palojoensuu, a really small village in Enontekiö, Finnish Lapland.
Fly fishing is my biggest passion – especially watching a grayling rise to a dry fly I tied the evening before. But I also love lying on a frozen lake, peering through the ice and waiting for an arctic char to bite.

A Lifetime of Fishing in the North
From classroom to riverbank
Before becoming a full-time fishing guide, I worked as a primary school teacher for 20 years. I organised school camps, taught outdoor skills and introduced plenty of people to fishing along the way.
These days I’ve swapped the classroom for rivers, lakes and wilderness camps – but I still love teaching, whether you’re picking up a fly rod for the first time or improving your casting. And don’t worry, there’s no exam at the end of the trip. At least not a written one.

Meet The Boss
My second guide is a Finnish Lapphund called Bruce. Yes, his last name is Springsteen.
The Boss is a reindeer dog without any reindeer to look after, but he’s pretty good at making friends with my guests. Bruce often joins our trips if you’d like a four-legged companion along.

My Approach to Guiding
I’m a fairly laid-back guy, and that’s how I like my fishing trips too. We’ll do our best to find good fish, but there’s no need to rush from place to place or follow a strict timetable when we’re surrounded by beautiful wilderness. Sometimes the best moments happen when we’re not fishing at all.
I also believe in looking after the places we visit: no rubbish left behind, careful fish handling, and only a few fish kept for eating. I’d like future generations to enjoy these waters as much as we do.

Let’s Go Fishing
I probably spend more time exploring rivers than updating my website or Instagram. If things seem a little quiet online, I’m most likely somewhere without coverage, looking for the next great fishing spot.
I can’t promise you’ll catch the fish of your lifetime. But I’ll do my best to take you to wonderful places, find a few fish and make sure we have a good time. And who knows – maybe that trophy grayling is waiting for us.
Tight lines! – Teemu
