Sea Trout Fishing in Northern Norway

Sea Trout Fishing in Norway’s Fjords

Northern Norway offers a very different kind of sea trout fishing. Instead of busy rivers and heavily fished estuaries, we explore Arctic fjords surrounded by mountains, cold clear water and kilometres of shoreline.

Some places are easy to reach. Others need a long walk, a boat or a willingness to explore – and sometimes the best water is the place nobody else has bothered to reach.

Fly Fishing and Spinning for Sea Trout

We target wild sea trout along the fjords of Northern Norway, particularly around Lyngen and Alta. Fishing is usually at its best from April through June.

We usually fish 6-weight fly rods and cover the shoreline with shrimp patterns. Spinning is welcome too.

Following the Tides

Sea trout fishing in the fjords is closely tied to the sea. Tides, wind, water temperature and weather all decide where the fish are, and a quiet beach can come alive a few hours later.

That’s why our days don’t always follow office hours. We may start early, finish late or move between areas as the tide changes. The fish decide the schedule – and if you like, we can switch target species when the tide turns.

More Than Just Fishing

The Lyngen fjord is one of the most spectacular places to fish for sea trout. Snow-covered mountains rise straight from the sea, the coastline runs on for kilometres and the weather can change the whole landscape in an hour.

While your fly swings through clear Arctic water, you may see porpoises, dolphins or other marine life further out in the fjord.

Go Further

Some excellent sea trout water is right by the road – but we don’t have to stop there. On longer trips we explore more isolated stretches of coastline and use a rubber boat to reach beaches that are hard to access from land.

Multi-day trips give us flexibility to work with the tides and weather. Accommodation can be anything from a comfortable cabin or hotel to a simple camp close to the fishing.

Who Is This For?

You don’t need to be an expert sea trout angler. Beginners are welcome, and I’ll help with casting, tackle and the basic techniques for fishing the fjords. Experienced anglers will enjoy the unfamiliar coastline, changing tides and the challenge of finding wild fish in a huge environment.

Before your trip we’ll agree on fly fishing or spinning, timing, accommodation, whether you want a day trip or a multi-day adventure, and how remote you want it to be.
