Brown Trout – The Wild Predator
Wild brown trout in the rivers and lakes of northern Scandinavia, on a dry fly, a nymph or a streamer.

A Week Away. For Three Good Reasons.
Personally guided by Teemu Vehviläinen, founder of Grayling Guide.

A private, all-inclusive fishing adventure through the remote wilderness of northern Scandinavia. Wild brown trout, grayling and arctic char – three wonderful species, each with its own challenge. Can you catch all three on one expedition and complete the Lapland Grand Slam?
For seven days we fish the rivers and fell lakes of Northern Finland, Sweden and Norway, travel by helicopter or floatplane and enjoy a fishing trip without a rigid schedule. Dry-fly fishing is close to my heart, but fly fishing or spinning – the important thing is enjoying the fishing.
I take care of the arrangements, from airport transfers and fishing licences to accommodation, meals and equipment.
Your adventure begins where the roads end.
The Grand Slam is about variety: different waters, different fish and different ways to fish.

Wild brown trout in the rivers and lakes of northern Scandinavia, on a dry fly, a nymph or a streamer.

Watching a grayling rise to a carefully presented dry fly in a remote river is something every fly fisher should experience.

Beautiful fish of the clearest, most spectacular waters in the north – a rewarding challenge on a fly rod.
Three wild species. One expedition. The challenge is to catch them all.

The Grand Slam takes us to remote rivers and lakes, away from the usual fishing destinations. Helicopter or floatplane transport is included, so we can reach waters that would otherwise take a lot of time and effort. I choose the aircraft and route by our destinations and group size.
We might spend a couple of days dry-fly fishing for grayling, then head into the fells for arctic char or explore new rivers for wild brown trout. If we find a particularly good spot, we stay a little longer. The fishing decides the journey, not the other way round.

The seven days include your arrival and departure days. I meet you at Kittilä Airport and take care of all transport during the trip. If your flight lands very late, we can adjust the schedule so you don’t lose fishing time.
The exact programme depends on your flights, the fishing areas and the conditions. The goal is a good chance at all three species – without rushing through the wilderness just to tick boxes. Completing the Grand Slam is a challenge, not a guaranteed catch.

Wake up close to the water, enjoy your morning coffee in the wilderness and look forward to another day of fishing. Depending on the itinerary, we stay in modest guest rooms and wilderness tent camps – sometimes in tipi tents with proper outdoor beds when we don’t need to move camp. The expedition can include river rafting too, especially when chasing grayling.
All camping equipment, accommodation and meals are included. This isn’t conventional luxury. The real luxury is time on the water, wild fish and the wilderness around you.

I personally guide your Grand Slam from beginning to end. The trip is private for two to four anglers, so it’s easy to spend more time on promising water or simply take things at a relaxed pace. I’ve fished these waters for more than 40 years, and I still get as excited as anyone when a good fish rises to a dry fly.
The Grand Slam doesn’t need to be physically demanding: I can choose waters that are reasonably easy to reach – or include more hiking and wading if you enjoy that. Curiosity and a love of being outdoors matter more than expert casting.

Absolutely. It suits anglers who enjoy exploring different waters and chasing wild fish. Dry-fly fishing is at the heart of it, but nymphs, streamers and spinning are welcome too.

No. We fish for wild fish in natural waters, and conditions change. Catching all three is the goal, not a guarantee.
