Fly rod and blue reel on stones by the water

What to Pack for a Fishing Trip to Lapland

Bring Your Sense of Adventure. And Something Waterproof.

Angler fishing a calm lake in autumn

Pack for Four Seasons

Arctic summer weather can be surprisingly variable. One day is warm and sunny, the next cold, wet and windy – and nights can be really cold.

Come prepared and you’ll enjoy the fishing much more.

Clothing and Fishing Equipment

Angler in waterproof layers in a rubber boat

Clothing

  • Waterproof jacket and trousers
  • Warm fleece or mid-layer
  • Base layers and warm socks
  • A hat – also a warm one – and gloves
  • Sunglasses and sun protection
  • Comfortable outdoor clothing
Packrafts and waders on the shore of a mountain lake

Waders

Waders and wading boots are strongly recommended for many fishing situations.

If your package includes waders, you don’t need your own – just tell us your size before the trip.

Fly rods leaning against birch branches

Fly rods

  • 3- or 4-weight: light dry-fly fishing for grayling and smaller rivers
  • 5-weight: a versatile choice for bigger rivers and general northern fishing
  • 6- or 7-weight: sea trout
Backpack and fishing gear ready by the river

Fly lines

A WF or DT floating line usually works best on rivers. On lakes and the coast, slow-sinking or sink-tip lines are useful too.

Not sure what to bring? I’ll advise you before your trip.

Fly box full of dry flies

Flies

I always carry plenty of flies you can use, but tie and bring your own if you like. We fish dry flies most of the time.

  • Klinkhammer, Skater, CDC Caddis and Parachute Adams (grey, dark brown, black)
  • Hare & Copper and Pheasant Tail nymphs
  • Woolly Bugger (olive, black)
  • Silver and black streamers
  • Shrimp flies for sea trout

What we can provide

Depending on your package: rods, reels, lines, flies, waders and boots, coffee and snacks, camping and safety equipment.

On some trips also a rubber boat and outboard, float tubes or packrafts, all meals, and helicopter or floatplane flights.

Don’t Overpack

You don’t need to bring an entire fishing shop. Bring clothing that keeps you warm and dry, your favourite personal tackle if you have it, and enough enthusiasm for long days outside.

We take care of the rest where your package allows – and when you book, you can ask for specific flies for your target species.
